Doctors' Surgeries
We want to see follow up procedures in place after potential suicide threats. Ned, aged 16 at Bohunt School, had threatened to jump in front of a train at either Liss or Liphook station. He was assessed by a GP as mentally stable. In the subsequent 4 years no-one asked how Ned was. There were no follow up calls and no offer of counselling: the system failed him.
I have met with my GP and discussed how we can try to prevent other young adults taking their lives so tragically. We are wanting to work with local schools to act upon and to follow through with help in light of any potential suicide threats. We would like to offer a counselling service to provide a positive way forward for troubled young adults.
We want to work with families to highlight the vulnerability of young adults who just don't suit the system. Ned and education just did not work; he was under-stimulated and as a result disruptive, and he spent most of his school day in exclusion and not in the classroom. He was a natural sportsman, a brilliant skier and snowboarder; a wonderful brother and a most cherished son.
I am hoping to work alongside various charities, Bohunt School, and our local GPs. In light of Ned's tragic death I have been horrified at the number of adults aged 16-20 years old who have threatened suicide. It will be my waking mission to try to get these troubled young people to talk about their emotional health.
Ned's fund will be devoted to supporting young adults who find themselves in difficult circumstances. Thought is being given to establishing a unique fund in Ned's memory with these objectives.

Vocational Training
One of the possible ideas that I have is to provide training for one young person at Shipwright School - IBTC Portsmouth.
They are a traditional boat building training college and a world-renowned training provider with 100% employment rate of graduates to date. Based in the heart of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard they offer a Level 3 City & Guilds Qualification, their own Diploma, and a range of short courses. They teach techniques of traditional wooden boat building alongside related transferable skills.
This placement at college would allow one sponsored young adult the opportunity to gain a sense of meaning, purpose, and achievement for their life. This would be accompanied by the prospect of a job.
